Chidambaram says it’s too late and apologizes for the lives lost during the Telangana statehood stir.

Chidambaram: The ruling BRS reacted sharply to senior Congressman P Chidambaram’s apology for the deaths that occurred during the Telangana statehood movement.

The former Union Minister said that dividing or founding a state was not something that was done lightly and that it was done in response to popular movement while speaking to the media on Thursday in Hyderabad.

Minister K T Rama Rao, the leader of the BRS, responded to Chidambaram’s comments by saying it was already too late. Chidambaram referred to suicide as a “unfortunate incident” and expressed regret if anyone died as a result of the agitation during the people’s movement. However, you cannot hold the Central government of the time accountable for that.

He was answering Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s charge that lives had been lost as a result of the previous UPA government’s delay in forming Telangana.

The veteran congressman went on to say that Telangana was created in reaction to the populist movement. BRS working president Rama Rao wrote, “Too late and Too little Chidambaram Ji..” in a post on “X.” During the years 1952 to 2014, hundreds of Telangana youth were killed by your party alone. Congress’s atrocities against the people of Telangana will never fade from memory, no matter how hard you try now.

On the other hand, Chidambaram claimed that during the BRS government led by K Chandrasekhar Rao, over 4,000 suicides were reported in Telangana, and he wanted to know who was to blame.

“A state is formed following a movement, such as the creation of the original Andhra Pradesh. A state is split as a result of population migration. We apologize if any lives have been lost. What about Telangana’s approximately 4,000 suicides during the KCR administration, though? Who bears the guilt for those suicides? He queried.

Rao had accused Congress at his poll rallies of impeding Telangana’s formation.

After he started an indefinite fast, the previous UPA government approved Telangana’s formation, but it later broke its word. Later, he had claimed that the UPA government had only kept its promise in the face of widespread protests.

Rao also said that the Grand Old Party postponed approving a new state and that the Congress was to blame for the deaths that occurred during the statehood movement. Rao became a well-known leader of that movement, according to Chidambaram, which is why he is currently the Chief Minister.

“Hopefully, KCR is not implying that the people are unrelated to that, and since I’m from Telangana… He said, “I hope he is not saying that, and if he is, people will respond to him in the elections.

The former Union Minister recalled that the Congress finally agreed to split off Telangana after much effort and persuasion, and that announcement came on December 9, 2009, the day Chandrasekhar Rao broke his fast.

“He (KCR) thanked us very much. However, there was another uproar. Six recommendations were made by the Justice Srikrishna Commission after it was appointed. In the end, he continued, “the Congress party and the Central government decided to split united Andhra Pradesh into Telangana and AP.”

In response to a question concerning KCR’s claim that Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were merged by the Congress in 1956 against the wishes of the local populace, Chidambaram stated, “I believe Chandrasekhar Rao is not a particularly good student of history.” How did Andhra Pradesh come to be? The Madras presidency included a sizable portion of Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad state was another. A united Andhra Pradesh was formed, uniting all Telugu-speaking people and regions in this part of India, as a result of a significant movement to create a Telugu-speaking state, he said.

Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao responded by writing on “X” that Congressman Chidambaram’s remark was “like a murderer expressing condolences.”During the agitation, young people gave their lives in sacrifice because Chidambaram had reversed his earlier remarks regarding Telangana’s formation.
