B&A: Tea giant B&A Ltd enters the retail market

B&A Ltd. has entered the retail market with its “Gatoonga” brand of black tea, marking a first for the company’s more than a century of existence, a senior company official stated.

Managing Director of B&A Ltd., Somnath Chatterjee, stated that the brand was introduced on Saturday in Assam. The company’s goal is to gain traction in the home state before expanding around the nation.

With the “Gatoonga” brand, the company entered the Assamese market to launch its retail venture. Based on a demand-driven growth strategy, the company will progressively expand its reach throughout India, he added.

Retail branding was the fifth of the company’s parent group’s four prior verticals, according to Dhruba Jyoti Dowerah, Deputy Managing Director of B&A Ltd.

Tea production and processing, packing, tea travel, and brokerage are the current verticals.

Originating from Barasali Tea firm Ltd, which was established in 1915, B&A Ltd is the publicly traded flagship firm of the Rs 300-crore Barooahs & Associates Group.

5.5 million kg of black tea were produced by the company last year, and it currently owns 11 tea farms in upper Assam.

In line with its pan-Indian growth strategy, the Group recently acquired the Moheema tea plantation in the Golaghat area, according to Chatterjee, who also stated that the plan involves spending Rs 50 crore in capital expenditures.

He stated that this is the company’s first acquisition in well than 60 years.

The B&A Group has created a growth strategy for pan-India, including new acquisitions and diversification into the branded retail tea industry, for the first time in sixty years. According to him, the company’s growth and expansion plan calls for investments totaling about Rs 50 crore over the following seven years.
