Following his mysterious one-line post on X on March 30, Singh’s association with the Congress was speculated about. Singh stated, “I am prepared to go wherever the public requests.”

Singh wrote, “In more than 20 years of boxing, I have always made my country proud in the ring,” when he announced his decision to join the Congress. I’d like to take advantage of this chance and express my gratitude to the INC India party, Priyanka Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi for this assignment.

Singh also participated in the first leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which took place in January of last year in Karnal, Haryana, alongside Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

After winning a bronze medal in the 2008 Beijing Games, Singh made sporting history in India as the country’s first-ever boxer to win an Olympic medal. His ascent persisted as he expanded his collection of medals to include a gold from the 2010 Commonwealth Games and a bronze from the 2009 World Championships. The renowned Padma Shri award was given to Singh in 2010 in appreciation of his services to Indian sports.

Singh’s athletic career took a sharp turn in 2012 after it was revealed that he had been involved in a doping scandal. He was eventually exonerated in the case, though.
