British retailer Asda's IT systems will be completely built by Tcs.

British retailer Asda’s IT systems will be completely built by TCS under a multi-year contract.

British retailer Asda’s digital infrastructure would be built from the ground up in this agreement, unlike most other arrangements the IT major has inked because there is no existing technology involved.

According to a filing with the stock exchange, the British retailer Asda’s and the Indian IT services behemoth Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) have formed a multi-year agreement.

According to Abhijit Niyogi, Business Head of Retail for UK and Europe at TCS, “We will leverage the power of data and AI, and deliver innovative, industry-leading retail technology solutions to transform their core retail operations, employee experience, supply chain, and create opportunities for new business models.”

The agreement will concentrate on easing Asda’s digital transformation and IT model after the retail giant separates from Walmart, according to the Indian IT services provider.

According to information provided by the IT giant, TCS will upgrade Asda’s supply chain, human resources, warehouse, and online sales operations by integrating cloud-based ERP platforms. To enhance the experiences of both employees and customers as well as operational resilience, the Indian company will also automate IT activities using the Machine FirstTM Delivery Model.

The partnership, the business continued, “will leverage TCS’ cloud, AI, and security solutions to support Asda’s seamless and secure divestiture, improve customer experience, and drive innovation for market share growth and price leadership.”

Niyogi stated, “We will help them construct a new future-ready digital stack to support their growth and transformation aspirations by leveraging TCS’ deep contextual understanding, next-gen retail technology solutions, and industry experience.

Since they would be creating Asda’s digital infrastructure from scratch without using any legacy technology, this agreement stands apart from the majority of those the IT major has inked.

TCS would also assist in eradicating the legacy systems from Asda’s previous parent firm, Walmart, and putting in place a new cloud-first digital architecture. TDR Capital and the Issa Brothers purchased the British store from Walmart two years ago.

Mohsin Issa, the CEO of Asda, stated, “We have teamed with TCS because they provide experience in retail IT transformation and innovation. We are looking forward to collaborating with them to accelerate our business’ digital transformation and reach its full potential.
