BRS chief K Kavitha drops her objection to the ED summons

Leader of the Bharati Rashtra Samithi (BRS), K Kavitha, withdrew her appeal against the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) summons in the Delhi excise scam case on Tuesday.

The ED detained Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, on March 15 at her Hyderabad residence. She was held in the federal agency’s custody until March 23.

Her arrest therefore negated the need for her to contest the summons.

The BRS leader allegedly colluded with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and gave the party Rs 100 crore in order to gain favors in the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy, according to allegations made by the ED earlier on March 19.

Kavitha was questioned by the ED three times last year and once more this year in connection with this case; however, she declined to appear, citing a Supreme Court ruling that shielded her from any coercive measures.

Kavitha was described by the ED as “one of the kingpins and a key conspirator” of the Delhi excise policy scam. The ED further claimed that Kavitha and her associates were to retrieve the money that was paid to the AAP in advance of the crime in order to continue making money. The agency informed the special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court that she was a major gainer of the fraud while requesting her remand.

However, Kavitha claimed that since the BJP was unable to obtain a “backdoor entry” into Telangana, the Centre was “using” the ED. The SC is currently considering her plea contesting the ED’s arrest. The BJP is allegedly using the ED and CBI as its “goons” to eliminate political opponents, according to the AAP.
