Flipkart, India’s native e-commerce platform, has expanded its reach with the opening of a food fulfillment facility in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, which will provide next-day grocery deliveries to local customers. Flipkart will provide a curated range of renowned regional brands such as Freedom and Heritage, among others, as well as an enormous choice of over 6,000 products across categories such as dairy, eggs, chocolates, essentials, cleaning aids, and more, leveraging its local customer data.

Visakhapatnam is one of India’s fastest-growing e-commerce locations, with a significant market for online groceries. Over the years, it has experienced an influx of consumers from various demographics that prioritize convenience and value in their grocery purchases. Given Flipkart’s large range of value selections, the company has seen a significant increase in grocery demand and daily orders from local consumers, prompting the launch of its second grocery fulfillment center in the state following Vijayawada.

The new fulfillment facility, which covers 77,000 square feet, will handle 8,000 orders per day in Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle, Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Srikakulam, and Vizianagaram. It would create about 1,000 direct and indirect job opportunities while also improving the livelihoods of numerous small enterprises, MSMEs, and local farmers in the region.

Speaking about the launch, Srideep Kesavan, CEO of Heritage Foods, stated, “We at Heritage Foods sincerely cherish our excellent cooperation with Flipkart. Flipkart, with one of the broadest distribution networks, is an important partner for our growth, particularly as we increase our brand’s reach across the country. We are continuously striving to provide our customers with a diverse range of products and packaging alternatives for any occasion, while also delighting them with the best quality that we are recognized for.”

Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Flipkart Group, stated, “As a homegrown company with a consumer-first approach, we are excited to open our second grocery fulfillment center in the state.” Andhra Pradesh has been one of our core target markets, with a high demand for online groceries among local consumers. We recognize the state’s significant growth possibilities, and with the opening of this new fulfillment center, customers will have fast access to fresh food delivered to their homes the following day. This initiative demonstrates our commitment to reaching across Bharat, bridging the digital divide and making online purchasing more convenient for consumers while strengthening local companies, MSMEs, and farming communities and creating local job opportunities.”

Hari Kumar G, Vice President, Head of Grocery at Flipkart, commented on the launch, saying, “Andhra Pradesh is a rapidly developing market for us, and people are increasingly turning to online shopping for their everyday grocery needs. Our new fulfillment center in Visakhapatnam will help to meet this growing demand by providing consumers with a wide range of high-quality groceries at great prices the next day. We hope that by launching this initiative, we will increase consumer happiness while also improving regional growth.”

Previously dependant on the Vijayawada fulfillment center, Visakhapatnam and neighboring shoppers would now receive their grocery delivery the next day at the correct price. Flipkart continues to promote socioeconomic growth in the communities it serves by empowering regional MSMEs, sellers, and farmers, as well as helping local firms in food processing, logistics, packaging, and allied industries. Flipkart Grocery uses new technologies to increase user engagement with features such as voice-enabled purchasing, credit alternatives, and open-box delivery, resulting in an upgraded shopping experience.
