Google Launches “Google Wallet” for Android Users in India

The “Google Wallet” software, which will enable users to safely store necessities like event tickets, boarding passes, loyalty cards, and permits for public transportation, has been unveiled by Google for Android users in India.

With immediate effect, customers can now manage payments and important documents seamlessly with the help of the digital wallet service, which is a seamless addition to the Google Pay app.

  • “Google Wallet is specifically tailored for non-payment use cases; Google Pay is not going anywhere,” stated Ram Papatla, Google’s general manager and India engineering lead for Android.

Papatla also outlined the concept for the service’s introduction: an open software platform on which carriers, OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), and developers could collaborate to create incredible products.

Twenty well-known Indian companies, including PVR, INOX, Flipkart, Kochi Metro, Pine Labs, Air India, and IndiGo, have partnered with Google to make it easier for their services to be integrated with Google Wallet. The business has also disclosed intentions to add more partners in the upcoming months, which will increase the functionality and accessibility of the app.

Users of Google Wallet will be able to scan hard copy documents, store office/corporate badges, store metro tickets, retrieve boarding passes, and save movie and event tickets.

  • According to Google, “Google Wallet provides users with a single, organized location for quick, secure access to daily necessities like gift cards, public transportation passes, boarding passes, loyalty cards, and event tickets, among others.”

Papatla went on to say that the IT behemoth is prepared to develop a single app for usage in both payment and non-payment scenarios.

“Google Wallet is committed to its “promise of delivering openness, choice, and safety” and is built on a foundation of security and privacy,” stated Papatla.

The  Wallet is currently available in more than 80 countries.
