The Congress has fielded Kishori Lal Sharma, an Amethi native and devoted follower of the Gandhi family. After weeks of waiting, the decision was made public this morning.
The party has declared Rahul Gandhi as its candidate from Raebareli. It was anticipated that Gandhi would mount a vigorous campaign to reclaim Amethi. In 2019, Mr. Gandhi suffered a shocking defeat to Smriti Irani of the BJP in the family’s stronghold of Amethi.
KL Sharma expressed gratitude to the party for giving him the chance to run from Amethi, the stronghold of the Gandhi family in Uttar Pradesh.
For allowing a “chotte” karyakarta like myself to run from a seat that is their family stronghold, I would want to thank Khargeji, Sonia ji, Rahul ji, and Priyanka ji. I’ll put in a lot of work. For the past forty years, I have been employed in this constituency,” he declared.
KL Sharma retorted that Rahul Gandhi is fighting for the entire nation in response to the BJP’s claims that Gandhis chose not to run for office in Amethi because they were “scared”.
“Rahul Gandhi is not the type to flee from a situation. “He is defending the entire nation,” he declared.
