“Made in India” label on steel goods to strengthen the Indian brand: Scindia

“Made in India”: In an effort to promote locally produced goods internationally, the government launched an initiative on Thursday that requires steel manufacturers to label their products as “Made in India.”

According to Union Steel Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, the action is intended to execute Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” vision.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Steel, all Integrated Steel Players (ISPs) are now part of the initiative to brand and label “Made-in-India” steel products in the international market during the first phase.

The initiative said that in its second phase, the Secondary Steel Industries (SSIs) will join.

In order to discuss the status of the groundbreaking initiative by the Ministries of Steel and Commerce and Industry to brand and label “Made-in-India” steel products for the international market, Scindia presided over a consultative committee meeting.

In addition to increasing the appeal of Indian steel products to consumers, this would guarantee uniform product quality, the statement stated.

Heads of several steel PSUs attended the meeting here, as did Faggan Singh Kulaste, Minister of State for Steel.

PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ vision”

“The significance of branding in promoting the Indian steel industry and realizing PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ vision,” he emphasized during the meeting. A consistent and unique identity for Indian steel that represents its quality, innovation, and sustainable practices is necessary as part of the country’s efforts to become a global hub for manufacturing, he also emphasized.

Labeling and branding of products in the sector is a novel initiative taken by this ministry. A single brand identity for steel made in India will symbolize the country’s robust manufacturing potential, according to Scindia, who noted that the Ministry of Steel is the first ministry to design such a branding exercise.

For a limited number of products, all major ISPs have implemented the “Made in India” branding.

He added that label and QR code authentication have also been successfully integrated into the Application Programming Interface (API) of the Quality Council of India (QCI) portal for ISPs.

As per the minister, the next phase of the rollout will encompass more products and those made by the SSIs.

“With standard labels completed for every product category, all ISPs and 65% of India’s steel output have been brought on board. Each label will have a specific size and area reserved for the Made in India logo, according to the ministry.

It said that until DPIIT approves the final logo, the Made in India text will be used.
