Nayab Singh Saini to succeed Manohar Lal Khattar as Haryana CM

The leader of the Haryana BJP, Nayab Singh Saini, announced on Tuesday that he will take over as Chief Minister of Haryana. “Nayab Singh Saini will be the next chief minister of Haryana,” stated state BJP MLA Krishan Lal Middha. Nobody has talked about the Deputy Chief Minister; everyone is going to meet the governor now.”

Saini has been “chosen unanimously as leader of the party’s legislature group,” according to BJP MLA Subhash Sudha. Saini thanked PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and “all the MLAs and independent MLAs” on X for the BJP Legislative Party’s unanimous election of Saini as its leader.

This happened a few hours after Haryana’s chief minister, ML Khattar, resigned on Tuesday. Governor Bandaru Dattatreya of Haryana received resignation letters from all of his cabinet ministers as well. There were 14 ministers in the cabinet, including Khattar & three from the JJP, which is led by Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala. Everybody quit on Tuesday.

PTI sources claim that later in the day, the governor’s mansion will host the oath-taking ceremony for the newly appointed Haryana cabinet.

Following the BJP’s decision to sever ties with Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), there was a change of leadership in Haryana. The JJP & the BJP forged a post-election alliance after the BJP lost the majority in the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections.

Following a deadlock in the negotiations over seat sharing, the 2 political parties made the decision to split. In Haryana, there are ten Lok Sabha seats. The JJP intended to run for two of them. But, rumors have it that the BJP intended to run for all ten positions. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had taken hold of all ten state Lok Sabha seats.
