Bharatiya Janata Party MP Tejasvi Surya on Friday criticized the Congress administration for its “very casual” approach to the matter amid continuing demonstrations in Karnataka against the release of The Cauvery water conflict for Tamil Nadu.
The Bengaluru South MP claimed that the Congress is handling the situation in a “duplicitous manner” to support its INDIA bloc partner, the DMK in Tamil Nadu.

The state has experienced a 60% decrease in rainfall this year. Only 50 TMC of the state’s water supply compares to a requirement of around 106 TMC. Water is not available for farmers to maintain their single crop.
Surya continued, “The Cauvery is a national treasure. There is a lack of rain in this area. You must step forward to share hardship while you are sharing abundance. I don’t think there is anything irrational about the claim that Karnataka made before the Cauvery Water Management Authority.
Duraimurugan, the minister in charge of Tamil Nadu’s water resources, announced that the state will petition the Supreme Court to order the release of 5,000 cusecs of water.

On June 2, 1990, the Centre established the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) to resolve disputes over water-sharing capacity between Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Puducherry.
